Vintage Watch Guide

Care and Handling

Vintage timepieces carry decades of history—some span over a century. The craftsmanship and materials from earlier eras differ significantly from today's watchmaking standards. Modern care practices don't always translate to vintage pieces, and certain activities like vigorous exercise should be avoided when wearing them.

Treating your vintage watch with extra consideration deepens your connection to it and ensures years of enjoyment. These mechanical marvels have weathered time's passage gracefully—care for them as you would a treasured family heirloom: with gentleness, respect, and genuine appreciation.

Research and Purchasing

Collecting vintage watches involves inherent uncertainty that distinguishes it from buying contemporary timepieces. Success requires both diligent research and hands-on experience. When doubt lingers despite thorough investigation, we consistently recommend against purchasing. Confidence in your decision is essential—uncertainty can rob you of the pleasure these exceptional timepieces should bring.

Authenticity Verification

Each watch undergoes inspection by a our in-house watchmaker. To our knowledge, all pieces are authentic with original components intact, including unmodified dials, unless explicitly noted otherwise. While we maintain rigorous standards, vintage watches naturally involve some uncertainty. Professional opinions on originality can vary, leaving room for assessment differences.

Size Considerations

Vintage watches typically run smaller than modern timepieces. Our measurements, while approximate, offer reliable sizing guidance to help determine if the smaller proportions will suit your preferences.

Water Resistance

Treat all vintage watches as non-water-resistant. Microscopic cracks can develop in cases or crystals over time, even when invisible to the naked eye. Protecting these pieces from moisture exposure preserves their condition and longevity.

Servicing Requirements

Most of our watches are serviced, which involves complete movement disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, and regulation. Each serviced timepiece undergoes timegrapher testing (passing only with acceptable measurements) and multi-day inspection on a watch winder to ensure proper functionality. For watches not specifically marked as "Serviced," we strongly recommend professional servicing by a qualified watchmaker before regular wear. Additionally, we recommend regular servicing during ownership to maintain optimal performance and longevity.

Accuracy Expectations

Accuracy readings in the Condition section reflect only a 12-hour timegrapher test in a single position (movement up or dial up). This measurement serves as a reference point for understanding movement condition. We cannot guarantee real-world accuracy, as actual performance typically varies from laboratory conditions.

Original Accessories

Watches do not include original bracelets, straps, buckles, boxes, or documentation unless specifically mentioned in the listing.
